ALISON C. BARNES - PARTNER
ALISON C. BARNES is a trial and appellate litigator. Prior to joining Robbins Russell in 2003, Alison served as a trial attorney with the Civil Division of the Department of Justice for five years and spent a year practicing employment law at Alston & Bird LLP.
Alison has handled trial and appellate litigation matters for more than a decade. Most recently, Alison – along with fellow Robbins Russell attorneys – helped obtain a $500 million judgment for a client in an adversary proceeding in a federal bankruptcy court. Alison played a critical role in that case, including supervising discovery, managing the expert report process, preparing motions and pleadings, and putting on several expert witnesses at trial.
Alison has worked on a variety of other civil and criminal matters. Her work has included the representation of clients before the SEC and in other governmental investigations. In addition, Alison has served as trial counsel in a case in D.C. Superior Court; she has managed numerous commercial litigation matters; she has counseled clients preparing for government interviews and depositions; she has prepared and edited multiple appellate briefs; and she has argued in federal district and appellate courts.
During her tenure at the Department of Justice, Alison served as lead counsel on numerous civil cases in federal district courts around the country and she briefed and argued several cases in federal appellate courts.
Alison received a B.A. in English and Political Science, magna cum laude, from Vanderbilt University in 1994, and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1997. Alison is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Alison served as an adjunct professor of Legal Research and Writing at the George Washington University School of Law from 2000-2002.
