MARK T. STANCIL - PARTNER
MARK T. STANCIL is an appellate litigator. He has argued three cases before the Supreme Court of the United States and a number of other cases in the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second, Third, and Fourth Circuits, and in other state and federal courts. He has briefed many other matters in various trial and appellate courts across the country. His practice has encompassed a wide variety of matters, including bankruptcy, intellectual property, employment discrimination, Section 1983 litigation and qualified immunity, SEC disclosure issues, the Alien Tort Statute, trade secret, and complex breach-of-contract cases. A portion of his practice is devoted to white-collar criminal appellate matters and providing research-intensive legal analysis in criminal trials and securities fraud investigations. Mark served as a law clerk to Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist on the Supreme Court of the United States and to the Honorable David M. Ebel on the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. He earned his J.D. in 1999 from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he served as Articles Editor for the Virginia Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif. During his tenure at the law school, Mark also completed an M.A. in American History at the University’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. He received a B.A., with high distinction, in 1996 from the University of Virginia, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and the Raven Society. Mark has taught a seminar in constitutional theory as an adjunct professor at the Georgetown University Law Center. Mark currently serves as a lecturer at the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was a founding director of and continues to co-teach the Supreme Court Litigation Clinic.
