The American Lawyer awarded Robbins Russell the grand prize in its Global Dispute of the Year for U.S. Litigation (Finance) category at the 4th Annual Global Legal Awards. The award recognized Robbins Russell’s work in successfully resolving long-running litigation over the Republic of Argentina’s defaulted sovereign debt. The firm represented two hedge funds seeking to recover their claims stemming from Argentina’s multi-billion-dollar default in 2001. Robbins Russell, along with co-counsel and firms representing other creditors, prevailed throughout protracted proceedings in the district court, court of appeals, and Supreme Court. Those efforts culminated in a negotiated settlement with the Republic of Argentina earlier this year. Partners Roy Englert and Mark Stancil worked on the matter for more than three years, successfully defending injunctions requiring Argentina to honor its contractual promise to afford equal treatment to its defaulted debt.
